How to take a professional photo

The tool removes the background for you; the closer your photo is to these tips, the cleaner the cut.

  1. A plain, light backgroundA white or light wall with no pattern. Stand about half a metre from it so your shadow does not fall on it.
  2. Light from the frontFace a window in daylight, and keep lights and windows out from behind you.
  3. Shoot from a distanceIdeally someone else takes the photo from 1 to 1.5 metres away, with the phone at eye level; close-up selfies enlarge facial features.
  4. Shoulders in the frameShow the whole head with space above it, plus your shoulders and part of your chest, so nothing needs to be filled in.
  5. Clothes that stand out from the backgroundIf you are wearing white (a white shirt, thobe or shemagh), stand in front of a grey or light-coloured wall for a cleaner cut.
  6. A natural photoLook straight at the camera with your head level, with no filters or portrait mode, and keep hair away from your eyes.
